Basil is a neutered, 3 year-old male Chihuahua X Jack Russell, with a gentle nature who is searching for a loving new home.

Due to a change in his owner's circumstances, Basil is being rehomed. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been getting along with the other dog in the household, so he is seeking a calm, patient environment where he can feel secure and thrive. Basil is a little guy with a big heart, but he can be anxious and wary of new people, especially males. When meeting new faces, he may bark and appear cautious at first, but once he gets to know you and builds trust, he will warm up quickly—particularly if you have treats!

His curiosity will lead him to explore his new environment, but it may take him a little time to settle in and gain confidence. Basil is best suited to a quiet and calm home with an owner who will understand his anxiety and are willing to work with him using positive reward based techniques, his love for food certainly helps with this! As he can be quite reactive to other dogs when out on walks, he will require a patient owner who is willing to work on his reactivity, again, using reward-based training. Basil would thrive as the only pet in the home and is suited to a household with children aged 14+ due to his anxious nature.

Basil loves to play, his favourite games are ball, tug of war, and any activity that involves his owner’s attention. Once Basil is familiar and comfortable with you, he’s incredibly cuddly and will be happy to sit on your lap for cuddles. He’s very affectionate towards his owner and enjoys being handled (except at the vet, where he may become a bit stressed) Basil is house trained and travels comfortably in a car within a carrier. Although he can be a little vocal at the beginning of the journey, he soon settles, curls up and sleeps. He is crate trained and is happy to settle in his crate, in the home, for short naps throughout the day.

Basil can be a bit of an escape artist and will find his way through even the smallest gaps, so a secure garden, with solid 5ft boundaries is a must. He can comfortably be left in the home for around 3 hours and spends that time comfortably rested without being vocal or destructive. Basil is a smart little guy and has already mastered a number of commands, including sit, down, paw, and spin. He enjoys engaging with his carer and will thrive with routine and consistent training.

He’s a great companion for someone who is patient, understanding, and ready to invest time in helping him reach his full potential. Basil is a loving and loyal dog who will reward his new family with affection, cuddles, and playful moments. If you think you can provide the quiet, loving environment Basil needs, please get in touch.

He’s ready to find the perfect home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished.
