Interested in becoming a dog foster carer?
4 November 2024
Do you really love dogs but are not in a position, for whatever reason, to have your own, full time?
Fostering enables people to have animals in their lives, but without the full time commitment. Becoming a dog foster carer means you are providing invaluable support in caring for a dog while we are seeking their new, permanent home.
Interested?
● Are you over the age of 21?
● Do you live within a 45 minute radius from our sanctuary? (NR9 4PJ)
● Do you currently have no animals in your home?
● Do you have no children in the household aged under 12 years?
● Are you home the majority of the day?
● Do you have a safe and secure, fully enclosed garden?
● Are you experienced in caring for a dog?
If you have answered yes to the above questions, read on…
Becoming a foster carer for us would mean you are responsible for:
● Providing shelter and daily care for the foster dog, feeding, socialising, walking, training, grooming, all under the guidance of PACT’s foster coordinator
● Attending appointments - Foster carers will need the flexibility to come to the sanctuary for appointments when required. These are often planned in advance but if the dog is unwell then you will be required to bring the foster dog in for a vet check the same day. Visits to the site are usually around an hour but can sometimes be slightly longer.
● Keep up good communication - Replying promptly to communications from the foster coordinator or vet unit staff, including providing medical updates, completing foster assessments, providing photos and other updates via email.
● Willingness to follow our guidance. Each dog will go out on foster with their own specific program, written for that individual dog. This will need to be followed to ensure the dog has the best chance of success
If you are interested and feel you could provide a rescue dog with a suitable, temporary home please email our foster coordinator at dogsrehoming@pactsanctuary.org and request a foster carer application form. Once received, complete it, giving as much detail as possible and submit the form asap.
Thank you.
